About the Studios

Established in 1995 Rogue is a not-for-profit, co-operative that supports visual arts practice by providing artists with accessible and affordable studios in Manchester city centre. Rogue now houses sixty artists over two floors of studios and includes Rogue Project Space, used primarily for residency and exchange projects. One of the largest independent artists’ studio groups operating in the North West, artist members range from recent graduates to established practitioners and work in a wide range of disciplines and media; including drawing, film and video, illustration, installation, interactive art, painting, performance, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and textiles.

The archive below lists all previous open studios, residency and exchange programmes,  temporary exhibitions and events.

Purveyors

Purveyors features new work from three emergent Manchester-based artists, each linked not thematically, but by a sensitivity to the frameworks in which they and their work operate. Each artist explores, by omitting or manipulating, the structures that govern the realisation, presentation and interpretation of their art. Purveyors focuses on video installation, non-events and intervention as attempts to challenge our reactions to and beliefs in established modes of practice.

Rob Dunne, Bryn Lloyd-Evans and Daniel Staincliffe have all graduated from Manchester School of Art’s Interactive Arts programme in the past two years and have continued to develop their practices through regional, national and international exhibitions and projects.

27 MAY – 2 JUNE 2010 / PRIVATE VIEW: 27 MAY 6 PM - 8 PM

The passive-aggressive irrelevance of most work has always been a hidden fact of existence. ‘WORK!’ celebrates the casual ingenuity required to maintain the illusion of its significance shining a light on the condensed plod of Lowry’s beige maisonettes, the mental gymnastics of locating non-art in the chaos of a studio, and the depressing apathy of the big guy in the sky.

Jenny Holt is a filmmaker interested in the encounter between documentary and artist's film. She is a lecturer on the B.A. Hons Contemporary Film and Video programme, Manchester School of Art.

Steve Hunt lives and works in Manchester. He is employed as a Gallery Technician. He works in a variety of media, often recycling materials found in the workplace. Formerly, Hunt worked in the photographic industry. He sometimes makes photographs.

David Shrigley lives and works in Glasgow.
